Ask HN: Which writing patterns make a post look LLM-generated?

abnercoimbre Monday, December 08, 2025

I read a lot of blog posts and some give off an "LLM-generated" style even if the author wrote it themselves. That is most unfortunate because I write blog posts too and don't want my readers feeling suspicious either. A few examples people flag all the time:

- Openers like "let's be real"

- Closing sections with "the bottom line"

- Too many "Not X, but Y" sentences

- Heavy use of em dashes (—)

Where might we find a reputable and up-to-date list? Do we have efforts at tracking this somewhere?

Finally, I'm not claiming we should simply avoid the whole list and call it a day. It's just helpful to be aware.
