Show HN: Resurf – a local-first quick capture and personal library for Mac
deep933 Sunday, January 25, 2026Hi HN folks,
Deep here. I am a design engineer and I have been building Resurf for the past 4 months. Resurf is a local first Mac app for quickly capturing notes, thoughts, ideas, inspiration, links, and files like PDFs and images without switching context.
As a design engineer who cares a lot about craft, I built resurf because my “stuff I want to keep” was scattered across tabs, different apps, notes, screenshots, random folders, and I kept losing good references. A lot of tools exist, but I wanted something calm + polished that feels native on Mac (not another file manager).
with Resurf you can
- quickly capture with a global shortcut and a menu bar app - capture notes, links, and media like images, videos, and PDFs - save things without switching windows and breaking your flow - lightweight organization with Inbox to spaces, tags, and notes so you can categorize later - search across everything including keywords, type, tags, dates, and spaces - spotlight style quick panel to find anything fast - keep everything local on your file system with no cloud account
It also has an in-app web view and PDF viewer so you do not need to open multiple browser tabs.
we are still working on optional AI features (BYOK) to make this more powerful for people who wants AI.
The app is usable today but still beta. I am fixing bugs quickly as people report them. I am also exploring the best way to add AI and the resurfacing part based on early user feedback.
Would love to know what you think and any special use case you have.
